When you start a conversation

The form asks for your name, email address, conversation topic, a short description and a preferred next step. Those details are used to receive and respond to your request. Please keep the first message high-level and leave out confidential inventions, customer records and proprietary documents.

When you request notes from the lab

Email permission is a separate choice. An inquiry does not automatically subscribe you. A lab-note request records your email permission, its wording, the time of the request and the page it came from. It does not sign you up for texts or book a meeting.

A newsletter request is recorded as pending until you confirm your email address. Newsletter emails include an unsubscribe link. An inquiry can be handled without a newsletter subscription.

Storage and website operation

Requests are processed by our separately hosted engagement service and held in a database for follow-up and the requested communications. SendGrid handles email delivery on our behalf. Delivery, bounce and unsubscribe events are used to keep communication preferences current. The website does not place advertising pixels or social-feed widgets in your browser. The hosting service may keep technical logs needed to operate and protect the website.

LinkedIn and Facebook links take you to those services. Their own data practices apply there. Sharing is initiated by you; the website does not post to your social accounts automatically.

Optional website analytics

Google Analytics is optional and loads only after it is configured for this website and you choose to allow it. It helps us understand page visits, broad traffic sources, article-sharing actions, social-link clicks and confirmed form saves. A saved newsletter request is not the same as a confirmed subscription.

When you allow analytics, Google receives technical visit information and uses analytics cookies. We do not send the contents of your forms, your name, email address, request identifier or raw URL query strings to Analytics. Advertising personalization and Google signals are disabled, and this site does not install a Facebook advertising pixel.

Your analytics choice is saved in this browser for up to 180 days. Use Analytics choices in the footer to change it. Turning analytics off stops further collection by this site and removes its accessible Google Analytics cookies; it does not erase information already received by Google. Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track signals are treated as a request to keep optional analytics off. If browser storage is unavailable, your choice lasts for this page only.

The website and its forms can be used without analytics. Hosting and engagement-service security logs are separate from optional analytics. Google’s own practices are described in Google’s privacy policy.
